Abstract
Traditional infrastructure metrics measure system availability but fail to evaluate if generative AI outputs are useful. Because AI workloads are non-deterministic, models often experience silent failures like drift and hallucinations while dashboards remain green. Consequently, product managers frequently discover degradation before engineering does. To achieve true reliability, organizations must move beyond basic latency checks. They need to treat output signals like confidence scores, token length distributions, and user behavioral feedback as primary metrics. Teams must implement continuous online monitoring alongside offline evaluation. Establishing comprehensive logging schemas and graceful degradation fallbacks ensures systems consistently deliver safe and highly relevant user results.
