Abstract

As Artificial Intelligence (AI) workloads migrate from cloud servers to edge and flagship mobile devices, storage subsystems must deliver higher bandwidth, lower latency and tighter power behavior with higher protocol compliance and interoperability. This paper describes a collaborative verification strategy for early UFS 5.0 adoption in a next-generation AI System-on-Chip (SoC). The effort addressed a difficult convergence point where UFS 5.0, UniPro 3.0 and M-PHY 6.0 were still maturing while system integration, performance benchmarking and tape-out confidence were already required. The methodology applied reusable Verification Components in multiple topologies viz. full-stack operation, Reference M-PHY Module Interface (RMMI) abstraction and CPort passive monitoring to isolate and expose the protocol layers for stress verification and provide confidence for emulation platforms. A "Shift-Left" performance approach scaled interface timing to approximate HS-G6 behavior before final design availability thereby ensuring the architectural correctness of the upstream design components in the SoC. Stimulus space expansion on protocol by adopting the UFS Host BFM (Bus Functional Model) helped to ensure the system robustness to complex software use cases on protocol workload. The result is a practical blueprint for verifying emerging storage standards under concurrent specification, design and ecosystem evolution, emphasizing strategy towards testbench architecture, configurability, reusability and collaboration to achieve early evidence of system readiness.
