Abstract
Much ink has been spilled writing about the capabilities, advancements, and ails of artificial intelligence. Our workshop endeavors to bring together each of these discussions under a framing that centers People of the Global Majority and their concerns and hopes for AI. The lenses through which we will discuss and discern are Afrofuturism, a centering of the African diaspora in a multifaceted praxis of futuring across genres, and technowomanism, an ethical praxis grounded in the wisdom of Black women. Over two days, our collective will deconstruct and discover a toolkit for designing AI applications that can honor and uplift not only People of the Global Majority but all of society.
