Welcome to AI Quests: A Parent’s Guide
Welcome to AI Quests, a free, interactive game created by Google Research and the Stanford Accelerator for Learning. Designed specifically for 11- to 14-year-olds, AI Quests transforms AI education into a code-free, problem-solving adventure.
Instead of just reading about technology, your child steps into the shoes of a researcher to tackle real-world challenges, like predicting global floods, screening for eye diseases or mapping the brain.
How to Play Together
Getting started is incredibly easy. AI Quests is completely browser-based, meaning there is no software to install, no coding experience required, and no logins to manage. Simply open the game on a laptop or tablet, and choose a quest. AI Quests is not designed for play on mobile phones, so we recommend using a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet for the best experience.
While kids can go through the experience on their own, we recommend sitting down with your child for an enhanced experience. Together, you will meet Professor Skye, our friendly in-game mentor who guides players through the missions. As your child collects data and tests their own AI models, ask them questions like: "Why did you choose that data?", "How did your choices change the outcome?", or “What could happen if the AI gets this wrong?” A single quest takes about 45 minutes to complete, making it a meaningful activity to explore together.
What Your Child Can Gain
Today’s teens interact with AI every day, but they rarely get to see how it works behind the scenes. AI Quests makes that process more visible by putting students in the role of AI designers and problem-solvers working to use AI for good. By playing, your child will learn:
- How AI Actually Works: They will discover that AI isn't magic; it relies heavily on human choices, quality data, testing, and ongoing human judgment to determine whether its outputs can be trusted and used.
- Responsible Decision-Making: They will see firsthand how choices about data, testing, and the use of AI can affect its reliability and real-world outcomes.
- Real-World Impact: By working on simulations based on actual Google Research projects, we hope they will feel inspired to use AI technology to solve global problems and help others.
