Pavel Simakov
Dr. Pavel Simakov is a Tech Lead for Google Cloud Platform DevOps products. Previously at Google, he led engineering for Area 120 (a Google startup incubator), and Course Builder (a Google open-source online adaptive learning & MOOC platform). Pavel also contributed to the technical architecture of Bridgewater Associates investment research, Google Payments platform, and PayPal merchant services. He loves building intelligent software systems contributing to strategy, product, architecture, and coding.

Adding Third-Party Authentication to Open edX: A Case Study

In this document, we describe the third-party authentication system we added to Open edX. With this system, Open edX administrators can allow their users to sign in with a large array of external authentication providers. We outline the features and advantages of the system, describe how it can be extended and customized, and highlight reusable design principles that can be applied to other authentication implementations in online education.
