Abstract

For years, researchers have been writing about the Internet of Things and sensor networks, describing them as integral to the future of computing. However, despite the advantages they offer, neither has experienced wide- spread adoption. Here, we discuss the new Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) proto- col, which might be the missing link for these technologies. Bluetooth LE fills a gap, efficiently linking smartphones and low-power sensors previously unsupported by wireless standards such as Classic Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
